THE THREE SOUND OF REVOLUTION | #2 MIDDLE SOUND (EQUALITY)
Date
July 2023
Project type
Remix of revolution songs
Music and festivities go hand in hand, where the festival area also has different contexts during different eras. Festivities are important, even in the protest sites. Creating a space for expression of the rights, liberties, equalities and mutual respects of all social classes is indispensable in each demonstration site. In each era, songs written
from tears, courage and sacrifice have been used for consolation, and at the same time creating fun to nourish the morale of the demonstrators. The songs full of equality, free from social classism, are always sung in the gathering place by people of all classes, genders and age differences.
The music and entertainment realm of people in the modern era is organizing parties and various festivals, using clubs, bars, abandoned buildings, theaters, etc. Creating a space for freedom of expression in a safe place concerning equality
of genders and social classes is a necessity of people in modern times. The meaning and value
of the protest sites are as well consistent with the space of entertainment for people in modern times.
I’m therefore interested in bringing these two areas of festivities and equalities together, to open up new perspectives on the festival and protest sites. By inviting producers from different countries to select and remix protest songs from the past and present of their hometown, I expect to acquire strong content to be displayed in the festive events as well as the demonstration sites. Then, two DJs and two selected producers would be invited to mix and play sets of the protest and revolutionary songs produced by the producers, together with other special-selected songs, in the organized participatory festival, in order to present festivity aspects and vibrations.
